My Bio and Background
"A photographer gets people to pose for him.
A yoga instructor gets people to pose for themselves. "
~T. Guillemets
I have been practicing yoga for 10 years and I find myself inspired by my practice every time I am on the mat. Through yoga, I have learned to open my heart, to be truly conscious and to accept the present. It is the desire to share this continuous inspiration that led me to teaching.
In my classes, I strive to create a sense of community, compassion and fun. It is an honor for me to share my love of yoga with others, as I guide each individual through his or her own practice.
Yoga Philosophy and Style
In Fall 2006, I obtained my yoga teacher certification through YogaWorks' teacher training program. The YogaWorks style embraces and celebrates many styles of yoga. It would be best described as Vinyasa Flow, with a blend of principles from the teachings of Desikachar and the Ashtanga and Iyengar styles. Because this style incorporates various lineages and philosophies of yoga, the classes are customized to allow the practice to fit the needs of the yogi and yogini (a.k.a. the yoga student) at any level, in a friendly, warm and compassionate environment.
I also received a teaching certification in the Yoga for Two® Barnes Method for Prenatal Yoga, Yoga for Labor and Delivery and postpartum: Mommy and Me Yoga. The Barnes Method is based upon the principles of alignment from the Anusara yoga lineage and focuses on empowering and inspiring women for pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. The Anusara philosophy is considered to be "heart-oriented," meaning the poses are expressed from the inside-out, while inspiring light-heartedness, playfulness and joyful creativity within the yoga practice.
Because my training has included such a wide range of yoga philosophies, I believe in the flexibility and creativity of yoga and of honoring each student as an individual. My classes are designed to serve students of any level of experience or ability. I hope that you will take a moment to join us. Perhaps you will find yourself falling in love with yoga as well, and will enjoy the many benefits that the practice of yoga brings with it.
Namaste!
